I asked Elder Gust how his shoes were holding up -- Veracruz is a 'walking mission' only -- no cars or bikes so I assumed he would be wearing out some soles---sure enough, he has some pretty big holes - looks like he has been working hard!! (This are his favorite shoes--and they have THICK soles -- I can only imagine how the others look by now! It's a very good thing he has several pairs of shoes!)
I asked him to take a picture of them before he got them re-soled!!

Here is a little explanation from Elder Gust's email...
"I sent my baptismal pictures from this week. We baptized Victor Meso Lopes the big guy, Luis Jesus Fiscal Texna who looks like a little gangster, Jose Louis Temish Librado, and Adriana Temish Librado. They are all so awesome and come from nice families, almost all of them, I haven't known Luises family yet. It was a special day for Elder Mielnikowics and I to be able to see so many people get baptized. As well in the Zone there were 15 baptisms. We were very happy, I love being here and I love all the Elders who are here, we are working hard and seeing a lot of miracles."

"To answer a few of your questions, I received 3 birthday cakes for my birthday! The people here are very nice and loving and willing to give what they have to others. We are teaching about 4 families right now. I found an oven so we are going to try and bake the cakes [you sent] but I will definitely appreciate a 22 layer cake for my 22 birthday"

"Los Tuxtlas is amazing. Im sending pictures of the hike we just got back from today at the Hill Comorah.
I think I told you last week that I was getting a new companion, his name is Elder Mielnikowics and he is from Argentina! He is a great companion, works hard and has a lot of Ideas. He has a year and three months in the mision but only three months in Mexico. Long story short he had to wait a whole year for his visa in Argentina! I thought 5 months was long!
I'm not sure if you remember my first companions Elder Cuello and Elder Dunnington in ABQ New Mexico, but Elder Cuello is my new companions cousin, small world, we have talked a lot about him."

Los Tuxtlas
From Elder Gust's Letter This Week (4-16-12)
I sent a couple pictures, one is of some hills on the way in here to Los Tuxtlas and the other is a waterfall that me and my companion found this week looking for people, ya, we are in the jungle! There is a lot of Green here and a lot of hills. There is a hill called the Hill Cumorah here, the golden plate hill cumorah is in New York but this hill Cumorah as told by President Hansen is the hill cumorah that is found in the book of Mormon in one of the last battles between the Lamanites and the Nephites! President and Sister Treviño told me that there have been many book of mormon battles where I'm at. The people are super humble and nice, and have the best accent ever. They extend the last accent of every final word of their sentences. Like if I were to say in english ¨My Brothers name is CAAAAAmeron, he likes to play BAAAAAseball.... Love you Cam. I feel really lucky to be here and I know this is where I need to be right now, im going to try and get my Zone excited so we can all have the success our Father and Heaven wants us to have.
I'm actually going to be getting a new companion tomorrow, we found out today. Crazy changes but Elder Bartolomei is needed elsewere for a couple weeks and then is going to train a new missionary. I have learned a lot with him, we are good buddies. He will be going to BYU so we will stay in touch, he has already told me he wants to come to the house. He is a good kid, I'm excited to show him to you all.
